Probably the most important essay on the origin of Highlife but Douglas misses it’s 1920’s origin – according to Dr. Amos Anyimadu, a leading music researcher, the Kumasi Trio (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSifalSVW4I) originated the genera which he reckons is promiscus and has evolved over the years but gain prominence in the 1960s with E.T Mensah and the others that you notably mentioned including the living legend Ebo Taylor whom I reckon has not being celebrated enough for his incredible contribution to the genre. Off course, you cannot enumerate everyone but I also want to note that you missed Koo Nimo @ https://worldmusic.net/products/highlife-roots-revival is as important to the genre and served a palm wine type called palm wine music which now followers like “Nkwan Pa” .
