Ali Akbar Moradi and Pejman Hadadi to Perform Sacred Kurdish Music in New York

On Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 8:00 PM, Ali Akbar Moradi and Pejman Hadadi are set to perform at Roulette in New York City.

This concert presents a rare New York appearance by two of Iran’s most distinguished musicians. Ali Akbar Moradi, recognized as the foremost master of the tanbur, a two-stringed lute traditionally used in religious ceremonies, will be joined by Pejman Hadadi, an acclaimed percussionist specializing in tombak and daf. Hadadi has been a key member of the Dastan Ensemble for over two decades and has collaborated with prominent musicians in both Persian and world music traditions.

The duo will perform Kurdish music from western Iran, characterized by its ecstatic and trance-like qualities. The performance will highlight meditative improvisations from the Yarsan people’s repertoire, showcasing the intricate beauty of this little-known musical tradition in the United States.
