Bassekou Kouyaté & Amy Sacko Claim Top Position on World Music Charts Europe for August 2024

The album Djudjon by Malian duo Bassekou Kouyaté & Amy Sacko clinched the topmost spot on World Music Charts Europe in August 2024.

The latest album by the griot couple, Bassekou Kouyate and Amy Sacko, explores Bassekou’s life journey and deep connection with his ngoni, an ancient instrument. The album features new and reinterpreted texts in Bambara and Peul, sharing their fears, hopes, and philosophical reflections while honoring significant figures from the Bambara Empire.

Bassekou, renowned for his ngoni mastery, has performed globally with legends like Youssou N’Dour and Carlos Santana, earning accolades such as BBC awards and a Grammy nomination.

Recorded in their village of Garana by their son Madou Kouyate, Djudjon, L’oiseau de Garana was produced entirely in Mali, highlighting their cultural roots and traditions.
