Tinto Tango, a truly awesome quintet of Nuevo Tango Argentino based in Los Angeles, was formed in 2012. It includes five musicians united by their admiration for the musical and artistic contributions of Astor Piazzolla, the renowned Argentine composer and bandoneonist who elevated concert tango to new heights.

Their debut album Tinto Tango Plays Piazzolla earned them the Latin Grammy for Best Tango Album in 2021, produced in collaboration with Rafa Sardina, a multiple Grammy winner.

Now, Tinto Tango have released their second album, ALMA – Tinto Tango Plays Piazzolla, launched on March 15th. For sure, this album features 12 exquisitely crafted and memorable tracks from Piazzolla’s repertoire, including ‘Vuelvo al Sur’ and ‘Michelangelo’. Tinto Tango skillfully intertwine deeply grounded tango, western classical and contemporary jazz flavors. Alma features beautiful, lovely melodies; spectacular solos; and intricate ensemble work; all carried out with finesse, passion and dynamic energy.

The project ‘ALMA’, meaning soul in Spanish, is a tribute to the band’s profound connection with Piazzolla’s music. Mariano Dugatkin, the band’s founder, totally traces his affection for Piazzolla back to his childhood when his father would play Piazzolla’s music in the car, fostering discussions and reflections between songs.

Mariano Dugatkin, a Latin Grammy winner himself, is internationally recognized as a composer, producer, and bandoneon maestro from Buenos Aires, Argentina. His extensive experience includes collaborations with various tango orchestras in Argentina and prestigious accolades such as the National Composer’s Tribune Prize.

Musicians: Mariano Dugatkin on bandoneon; Alan Busteed on violin; Matias Piegari on piano; Angelo Metz on guitar; and Stewart Rosen on bass.
