Baragwin’s Infectious Toe-tapping Rhythms and Soul-stirring Melodies

Baragwin – Baragwin (2022)

Baragwin is the debut album of Baragwin, a Canadian trio formed in 2016, amidst the picturesque landscapes of the Bellechasse region, nestled on the serene shores of Quebec City’s southern expanse. The very name Baragwin, a fusion of ‘Bara’ and ‘Gwin’ symbolizing bread and wine in the Breton tongue, evokes a sense of rustic charm and cultural fusion.

Infused with the essence of the land yet resonating with the vibrancy of contemporary expressions, Baragwin’s harmonies evoke a primal urge to revel in the joyous cadence of life. This Bellechassoise ensemble endeavors not only to reinterpret the timeless treasures of folk music but also to forge an original path, weaving songs both obscure and unexplored.

Baragwin interlaces the rich tradition melodies and toe tapping rhythms of Bellechasse’s heritage with modern compositions, yielding engaging music that is both jubilant and poignant, echoing with the beating heart of a community united in celebration.

Musicians: Mike Labonté on violin, mandolin, harmonica, and vocals; Olivier Leclerc on guitar, bouzouki, banjo, and vocals; and Frederic Drouin on bodhran, podorhythmie, washboard, and vocals.
