The jury of Spain’s 2023 National Music Awards has proposed the granting of this award to guitarist Juan Manuel Cañizares, in the Performance modality. This award, which is awarded annually by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, is endowed with 30,000 euros.
The jury has decided to award the prize to Cañizares for “the performance capacity of combining different stylistic traditions on the guitar, breaking barriers between classical music and flamenco, as well as for the international dissemination of the Spanish guitar”.
