Alligator Records is set to reissue Johnny Winter’s esteemed album, “Guitar Slinger,” on Friday, July 21, 2023. Under the meticulous supervision of the original producer, Bruce Iglauer, who is not only the founder but also the president of Alligator Records, the album has undergone a process of remastering. This latest edition of “Guitar Slinger” will be presented on 140g black vinyl, marking its long-awaited return to the LP format after an absence of three decades.
Initially unveiled to the public in 1984, “Guitar Slinger” stands as the inaugural installment among the three albums that Johnny Winter, an iconic figure in American music, recorded with Alligator Records. Revered for his virtuosic guitar skills, Winter commanded the stage with a mesmerizing blend of passion and precision.
From 1968 to 1980, he produced a remarkable discography, comprising a total of 15 albums that fundamentally shaped and defined the genre. In a significant career move, Winter signed with Alligator Records in 1984, embarking on a new chapter that witnessed the creation of three albums, often hailed as the purest blues recordings of his illustrious career. This collaboration solidified his status as one of the preeminent blues artists worldwide. Notably, “Guitar Slinger” emerged as a pivotal release, sparking a profound resurgence that endured until the end of Winter’s life.
Collaborating with a select group of exceptionally talented Chicago blues musicians, Winter crafted an album brimming with standout tracks that have since become beloved by his fans.
