Altin Gün - Aşk

Chart-Topping Turkish-psych Altın Gün unveil fresh remix single

Following closely behind their highly praised fifth album Aşk, Altın Gün, a Netherlands-based Turkish psychedelia band, make a comeback with a two-song remix single. The two songs highlight the remixing abilities of Altın Gün band members Jasper Verhulst (bass) and Chris Bruining (percussion).

Verhulst and Bruining consistently seek out novel methods of recreating music, and these remixes served as a means to explore new directions within Altın Gün’s musical realm. “Kalk Gidelim (remix)” presents a cumbia-infused remix, drawing inspiration from Argentina’s cumbia villera, while “Su Sızıyor (remix)” offers a remix in a digidub style, featuring abundant reverbs and phasers inspired by King Tubby.

The original renditions of both “Kalk Gidelim” and “Su Sızıyor” can be found on the recent album Aşk. With Aşk (a deeper sensation of love), Altın Gün diverge from the electronic, synth-laden sound of their 2021 albums ‘Âlem’ and ‘Yol’. While those two records, crafted at home during the pandemic, paid homage to the electronic pop of the 80s and early 90s, Aşk marks a jubilant return to the Anatolian folk-rock sound of the 70s, which defined Altın Gün’s initial two albums On (2018) and Gece (2019). It is an album that exudes the contagious energy present in the Amsterdam-based sextet’s acclaimed live shows (such as their recent Electric Brixton concert that sold out) and elevates the group’s pioneering sonic palette of Turkish psychedelic groove pop, sci-fi disco, and ethereal acid folk.

The album also features singles such as “Rakiya Su Katamam,” a brooding space rock piece that takes a detour on the Bosphorus (don’t miss the animated video), an irresistible serving of sci-fi disco delight in “Doktor Civanım” (accompanied by a music video filmed in Istanbul), the profoundly atmospheric “Güzelliğin on Para Etmez” (all proceeds from streaming this single on YouTube will be donated to earthquake relief efforts), and “Leylim Ley,” a timeless ballad of lost love and exile.
