Cuban pianist and composer Roberto Fonseca has released “Sal Al Malecón,” the second single taken from the upcoming album La Gran Diversión. Release date is September 22, 2022, via Wagram Music.
In this homage to his birthplace, Havana, Roberto gracefully wanders across the keys of his piano, as if he were strolling along the Malecón, the iconic esplanade that witnessed his upbringing and served as a profound inspiration for his music. It is an exquisite invitation to embark on a journey and dance.
“Sal Al Malecón” follows his initial single, “Mani Mambo,” a lively celebration of dance and romance that skillfully merges timeless customs with exhilarating contemporaneity.
In his latest album, the virtuoso pianist and former member of the Buena Vista Social Club reflects on Cuba’s vibrant 1920s and its rich musical heritage, effortlessly transporting them into the present day.
For more than two decades, Fonseca has been at the forefront of Cuban music, enthralling audiences with his impressive solo discography while collaborating with renowned artists such as Ibrahim Ferrer (1927 – 2005) and Omara Portuondo. His 2007 album, Zamazu, established him as a formidable performer and composer in his own right. The Grammy-nominated Yo in 2012 featured notable guests like Fatoumata Diawara, the Malian sensation, with whom Fonseca later embarked on a highly acclaimed joint project and appeared on her latest record, London Ko. Roberto’s previous album, Yesun, was released in 2019.
