Congolese Fusionists and Recyclers Kin’Gongolo Kiniata

Nurtured by the melodies of Kinshasa, the Kin’Gongolo Kiniata ensemble conveys the bustling existence of these streets through their music. They fashion their own musical instruments using recycled materials and explore sonic patterns to create an innovative blend of afro-rock, blending elements of electronica and Congolese rhythms.

Their unstoppable compositions champion optimism and resilience: they honor migrant laborers, defy the conflict in Congo, and inspire the youth of Kinshasa.

Regarding the meaning of Kin’Gongolo, the answer is that when electricity is disrupted, mobile oil vendors provide the necessary means to generate light. “Kin’Gongolo” represents the clangorous clash of their metal containers.
