Altin Gün - Aşk

Altin Gün Rises to the Top of World Music Charts Europe for May 2023

The band Altin Gün, based in the Netherlands, has secured the top spot on the World Music Charts Europe for the month of May 2023 with their latest album, “Aşk.” This album successfully encapsulates the distinctive and evocative sound of 70s Anatolian folk-rock, which was a defining feature of their first two records. Additionally, the album manifests the vibrant and captivating energy that characterizes Altin Gün’s live performances in Amsterdam.

According to the band’s bassist, Jasper Verhulst, “Aşk” showcases a live sound, akin to a live album. The band created the album by gathering together in a rehearsal space and collaboratively creating music instead of relying on individual home demos.

The band consists of six members, namely Merve Daşdemir on vocals and keyboards, Erdinç Ecevit on vocals, saz, and keyboards, Thijs Elzinga on guitar, Jasper Verhulst on bass, Daniel Smienk on drums, and Chris Bruining on percussion.

“Aşk” marks a spirited revival of the 1970s Anatolian folk-rock style that was prominent in Altın Gün’s earlier works, including “On” (2018) and “Gece” (2019). The album is a testament to the band’s musicality and ability to channel diverse genres, which has propelled them to the forefront of the world music in Europe.
