Mísia - Animal Sentimental

Mísia’s Poetic and Intimate Fado

Mísia – Animal Sentimental (Galileo MC, 2022)

Animal Sentimental is a new album by the acclaimed fado singer, Mísia, produced by the award-winning producer and recording engineer, Wolf-Dieter Karwatky. The album was recorded at the historic Namouche studios in Lisbon, and features a carefully chosen line-up of experienced musicians, including pianist Ricardo Días; guitarists Bernardo Couto (Portuguese guitar), Bruno Costa (Coimbra guitar), Bernardo Viana (fado guitar), Luís Ferreirinha (classical guitar); and bassist Daniel Pinto.

The album includes Mísia distinctive, passionate and creative form of fado in a delightful, intimate format, accompanied simply by neoclassical piano or various types of guitars, with lyrics in Portuguese and Spanish. Notably, the album features new arrangements for songs that Mísia had already given her voice to in the past, as well as some new surprises, including “Qué he sacado con quererte” by Violeta Parra, “De alguna Manera” by Luis Eduardo Aute, and “Fico a Cismar” by Rodrigo Leão.

The words in each of the pieces were selected with care from poets such as Tiago Torres da Silva, Fernando Pessoa, Mário Cláudio, Natália Correia, Vasco Graça Moura, and Lídia Jorge, and are performed by Mísia with unreserved emotion and singular interpretative intelligence.

Animal Sentimental is part of an ambitious triptych, which also includes a book of poetic episodes and sentimental moments from Mísia’s life journey, as well as concerts that bring together her stories, songs, and feelings on stage. The cover of the album was created by the French painter Anne-Sophie Tschiegg, capturing Mísia’s unique artistic side.
