Artist Profiles: Aoife O’Donovan

GRAMMY-winning Singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Aoife O’Donovan was born on November 18, 1982, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Aoife O’Donovan was raised in Newton, Massachusetts, and spent summers in Ireland singing with her family. She discovered American folk music through artists like Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. She graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2003 with a degree in contemporary improvisation. In 2016, she married Eric Jacobsen, and they had a daughter, Ivy Jo, in 2017.

Crooked Still was formed in 2001 when Aoife and Corey DiMario, who both studied at the New England Conservatory of Music, met Rushad Eggleston and Gregory Liszt. The four musicians came together and formed the band.

Aoife O’Donovan creates American roots music that transcends genre. She has released several critically acclaimed solo albums, including “Age of Apathy”. Produced with Joe Henry, the album has 3 GRAMMY nominations, including Best Folk Album.

Aoife is also a member of the group I’m With Her, who won a Grammy for Best American Roots Song and an Americana Music Award for Duo/Group of the Year. She has also collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma, Alison Krauss, and Dave Douglas.

Aoife has performed with over a dozen symphonies and contributed to radio shows “Live From Here” and “A Prairie Home Companion”.
