Singer Rafa del Calli and Dancer Juan Tomás de la Molía Winners of the 13th National Flamenco Art Contest of Córdoba

The jury of the 13th National Flamenco Art Contest of Córdoba (Concurso Nacional de Arte Flamenco de Córdoba) announced the winners of this year’s edition. Rafa del Calli won in the singing (cante) by a majority of votes; and Juan Tomás de la Molía won the baile (dance) contest unanimously. Likewise, after the pertinent deliberation, it was decided to leave void, by majority, this year’s guitar prize.

Rafael Plantón Heredia, better known as Rafa del Calli (Córdoba, 1993) belongs to a lineage family of flamenco cantaores (singers). He is the son of singer José Antonio Plantón “El Calli”.

Active since 2014, he has participated in different festivals, theaters, shows and renowned clubs such as Serranito’s farewell tour in Córdoba in 2021. Previous outstanding awards include the first prize at the Cayetano Muriel “Niño de Cabra” Young Flamencos contest of Córdoba and the second prize of the Ateneo de Córdoba’s Agustín Gómez Award, both in 2014. In 2020, he was a finalist in the Antonio Mairena national contest.

Dancer Juan Tomás Domínguez, better known as Juan Tomás de la Molía, was born on February 23, 2000 in Trebujena, Cádiz. At the age of 6 he began to receive dance classes and in 2007 he ebuted with Carmen Cortés at the Sabatini Gardens in Madrid, receiving a resounding ovation. Since then, he trained at José Galván’s Seville academy and at the Cristina Heeren Foundation.

He won important prizes such as the Andalusian Young Talent Contest, the international dance competition of the Cristina Heeren Foundation for Flamenco Art and the Pure Flamenco competition at the Jerez festival. In 2022, he premiered his first solo show Presente and joined the cast of the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía.

The winning contestants are set to perform at the Final Gala that will take place at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba this Saturday, November 26, at 8:00 p.m. The two winners will be awarded 11,000 euros each. Finalists will get 3,000 euros and a diploma.
