Elephant Sessions is a progressive folk band from the Highlands of Scotland that was formed in 2012.
Gigging extensively throughout the UK, they quickly built a fan base and went on to release their debut album, “The Elusive Highland Beauty” in 2014. This successful recording and its subsequent tours and festival appearances led to Elephant Sessions winning the Best Up and Coming Act category at the BBC Alba Trad Music awards in 2014.
As their reputation grew, the band began started performing outside the UK, at some of the most prestigious European Festivals. Since then, Elephant Sessions have made live appearances at some of the most notable venues and festivals across the UK, continental Europe and Australia, including Glastonbury, Byron Bay Bluesfest, Colours of Ostrava and multiple headline sell-outs at Celtic Connections.
Elephant Sessions’ sound is characterized by a mix of intricate tunes, engaging guitars, with a bass and drum heavy backline; it is a superb cocktail of trad (traditional music), funk and electronica.
In 2018, the band received the Live Act of the Year award at the BBC Scots Trad Music Awards.
The lineup in 2022 included Euan Smillie on fiddle; Alasdair Taylor on mandolin; Seth Tinsley on bass, synthesizer; and Greg Barry on drums and samples.
“For The Night” won the Album of The Year classification at the 2022 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards.
