Malian Star Oumou Sangaré Adds Will Calhoun’s Mali Project to Apollo Debut

Acclaimed Malian singer Oumou Sangaré is set to perform at the famed Apollo Theater on
Saturday, October 29, 2022. In addition to Sangaré, Will Calhoun’s Mali Project has also been added to the evening’s lineup. The concert is produced by World Music Institute in association with The Apollo.

One of West Africa’s finest vocalists, Sangaré infuses her music with traditional African percussion, distinctive vocals, and progressive social criticism, creating a unique sound that has propelled her onto the international stage and made her into one of the top world music acts.

In her Apollo debut, Sangaré, “The Songbird of Wassulu,” will perform music that spans traditional Wassulu music to contemporary sounds coming out of Africa as well as songs from her recent critically acclaimed album, Timbuktu.
