Purbayan Chatterjee & Rakesh Chaurasia – Saath Saath (2022)
Indian sitar maestro and composer Purbayan Chatterjee has teamed up with his friend, flute virtuoso and composer Rakesh Chaurasia on the splendid album “Saath Saath”.
The new recording contains 7 beautifully constructed ragas for morning and night, recorded in Mumbai (Bombay) in March 2022. “Saath Saath” follows the transition between day and night, with the first half of the album dedicated to calmer morning ragas, while the latter night ragas increase in intensity.
Although the music is deeply grounded in Indian classical tradition, Purbayan Chatterjee has been pushing boundaries for years. During his visits to the United States, he was exposed to jazz and other musical influences, which he and Chaurasia incorporate seamlessly and elegantly.
“Saath Saath” is filled with exquisite performances highlighting the compositional talent and technical skill of Purbayan Chatterjee, Rakesh Chaurasia and their guest musicians, Ojas Adhiya on tabla and Taufiq Qureshi on percussion.
The two artists are touring the United States and the United Kingdom throughout September and October.
