Portugal’s Iconic World Music Event, Festival MED, Announces Impressive 2022 Lineup

The 18th edition of Festival MED will take place from June 30 to July 3rd, 2022, in the historical medieval downtown of Loulé in southern Portugal. Festival MED is one of the greatest world music festivals in Europe. In addition to top international and Portuguese acts, the festival also includes gastronomy, fine arts, street entertainment, handcrafts, dancing, workshops, and much more, with the goal of spreading the several cultures from around the world.

The 2022 lineup includes Albaluna (Portugal), Aline Frazão (Angola), Anthony B (Jamaica), Ayo (Germany/Nigeria), Bombino (Niger), Chico Trujillo (Chile), Criatura (Portugal), Electric Jalaba (Morocco/UK), Eskorzo (Spain), Expresso Transatlântico (Portugal), Ghetto Kumbé (Colombia), Go_A (Ukraine), Gyedu-Blay & His Sekondi Band (Ghana), Batida apresenta Ikoqwe (Portugal/Angola), Johnny Hooker (Brazil), Júpiter & Okwess (Democratic Republic of Congo), Mallu Magalhães (Brazil), Manou Gallo (Ivory Coast), Maro (Portugal), N3rdistan (France/Morocco), Nancy Vieira (Cape Verde), Noiserv (Portugal), Noura Mint Seymali (Mauritania), O Gajo (Portugal), Oum Trio Mouthallat (Morocco), Plasticine (Portugal), RE:Imaginar BANDA Monte Cara (Cape Verde), Rodrigo Cuevas (Spain), Scúru Fitchádu (Portugal/Cape Verde), Shkoon (Syria/Germany), Sylva Drums (Portugal), Victor Zamora & Sexteto Cuba (Portugal/Cuba), Viviane (Portugal).

The City government of Loulé created Festival MED in 2004 with the goal of promoting the cultures from around the world, with a special focus on world music. Around 576 music bands have participated in the 17 editions of the Festival MED, representing 52 countries. Past highlights include performances by Buena Vista Social Club, Goran Bregovic, Jimmy Cliff, Solomon Burke, Amadou & Mariam, Rokia Traoré, Kimmo Pohjonen and Bajofondo Tango Club.

Festival MED has also supported Portuguese artists, such as fado singers Ana Moura and Camané, as well as rising talent like Portuguese-Angolan project Batida.
