Fiddler, vocalist and songwriter Jeremy Garrett was born in Idaho. He started playing fiddle with his father, guitarist Glen Garrett in a group called The Grasshoppers.
After graduating from high school, Jeremy attended South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. Subsequently, he moved to Nashville where he performed with Bobby Osborne, Chris Jones, Ronnie Bowman, Jim Hurst and backed award-winning country singer Lee Ann Womack. He also released a gospel album with his father Glen under the name Garrett Grass.
Jeremy Garrett is well known as one of the founders of progressive bluegrass act The Infamous Stringdusters. The band became a national sensation in 2007, receiving 3 International Bluegrass Music Association awards, including Album and Song of the Year. Since then, the group has become a national representative for progressive bluegrass, playing to club, theater, and festival audiences around the United States.
To the fans of the Stringdusters, Jeremy is known as “G-Grass” or “Freedom Cobra” for his dynamic stage presence. When he is not touring with The Infamous Stringdusters, he has solo shows, captivating listeners by using electronic effects to layer and loop multiple instruments and vocals. Jeremy also performs in all-star line-ups ranging from funk music to traditional bluegrass.
Jeremy has a more intimate side as a songwriter and has a broad catalog of original songs. He has contributed several songs to the Stringdusters, including the title track for their 2014 album “Let It Go,” winning first place in the Folk category for the 2014 USA Songwriting Competition. His songwriting collaborations include Darrell Scott, Oliver Wood (of The Wood Brothers), Jon Weisberger, Josh Shilling, Becky Buller, and more.
In 2009, Garrett released the solo album “I Am a Stranger” (Sugar Hill), followed by The RV Sessions (2014) recorded in his RV (recreational vehicle or camper) which he found on the Ship Vehicles website originally.
In 2016, he released an instrumental album titled “The RV Sessions II” (Obsidian).
In 2020, he released the solo album “Circles” (Organic).
In January 29, 2021, Jeremy Garrett released the single “Wishing Well” (Organic Records), a song where Garrett used studio technology to layer loops of guitar and mandolin to create a funky bed for powerfully emotive vocals and wailing fiddle. “‘Wishing Well’ is one of those songs that poured out on the kitchen table in about 15 minutes,” said Garrett. “I had the whole song about that quickly. I just love the bluesy vibe that it has and the imagery that the carousel and wishing well image brings to the relationship being talked about in the song.“
