Iranian singer Marjan Vahdat was born in 1976 in Tehran. She has performed as an independent singer and musician since 1995.
Marjan has presented her music in many concerts and festivals in Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa. After her participation in the acclaimed album “Lullabies from the Axis of Evil” (2004), Marjan and her sister Mahsa started a long lasting collaboration with the Norwegian record label Kirkelig Kulturverksted (KKV). This partnership led to a worldwide release of a series of albums and a various tours and concerts in many countries.
Marjan Vahdat’s career has given a deeper knowledge about Iranian music and poetry to large audiences in Europe, America, Asia, Oceania and Africa. Marjan has developed her personal style based on the Persian vocal tradition of classical and regional folk music, with a contemporary expression. she always searched for ways to make her music relevant to the present world. Even if the origin of her styles is Iranian, she believes in her music’s ability to express a universal message of humanism and freedom.
Marjan Vahdat released her third solo album, “Our Garden is Alone” in 2022, produced by Bugge Wesseltoft. The music was produced during the corona virus pandemic difficult times. The ensemble was unable to meet in the studio so sessions took place on three continents.
The lineup on Our Garden is Alone includes Marjan Vahdat (vocals), Bugge Wesseltoft (piano, accordion, keyboards), Jo Berger Myhre (double bass and electric bass), Kenneth Ekornes (drums and percussion), Shervin Mohajer (kamancheh) and Pasha Hanjani (ney flute).
In 2024, Marjan released a solo a cappella album titled The Eagle of my Heart.
