Pianist Juan Pérez Rodríguez has won the first edition of the SGAE Paco de Lucía Flamenco Award with his creation “Contrarreloj”. The award was presented last evening, March 8, 2022 at Teatro Central in Seville.
Juan Pérez Rodríguez will receive a 6,000 euro cash prize for this composition. The winner said: “I am very happy because I have won in the first edition of a prize that bears the name of our great flamenco genius”.
“I want to take the opportunity to remind you that performing is very good, but that initiatives that promote creativity and composition such as this award are necessary, because knowing new languages is what makes art grow“.
The second prize (3,000 euros) was awarded to José Carlos Gómez for his work “El Greco”. Diego Amador received the third prize (1,500 euros) for his piece “El silencio es oro”. The fourth prize (1,200 euros) was given to Alfonso Aroca for his composition “Soleá 2.0”.
