Alex Conde – Descarga for Bud (Sedajazz, 2021)
Spanish pianist, composer, arranger, and educator Alex Conde takes the music of influential American jazz pianist Bud Powell and reconceives it by infusing it with Flamenco beats and flavors.
On “Descarga for Bud,” Conde collaborated with well-known American musicians from the jazz and Latin jazz world as well as Spanish Flamenco musicians. The result is a superbly performed set of musical pieces where jazz is elegantly intertwined with Flamenco forms such as bulerías, tangos, alegrías, soleás, and rumba flamenca; and Latin Jazz.
The lineup includes Alex Conde on piano; John Santos on congas and bongos; Jeff Chambers on double bass; Colin Douglas on drums; Sergio Martínez on cajón, jembe and palmas (Flamenco handclap percussion); Mike Olmos on trumpet; Jeff Narell on steelpan; and José Luis de la Paz on guitar.
