Cecilia Gauna Unveils “Rosa del Desierto” Music Video

Acclaimed Argentine artist Cecilia Gauna has unveiled a new music video featuring the single “Rosa del Desierto“. The track appears on Gauna’s recent album “Delfines.”

The video was filmed during the pandemic at a Tigre Delta wetland in Ingeniero Maschwitz, Argentina. It combines outdoor scenes in nature with footage using the stop motion technique, as well as masks to create a loving, healing ritual led by Cecilia Gauna, the composer of the song, along with an ensemble of singers and actresses.

The music features a powerful brass band arrangement as well as “canto con caja,” a type of ancient folk song traditionally found in the Andes regions of South America that is accompanied by the “caja” (box “drum) percussion instrument. Rosa del Desierto also includes an impressive female choir of “brujas” (witches).

The “rosa del desierto” (desert rose) is a fascinating rock that “grows” in deserts. It has lime petals that brighten the “flower”.

The female choir sings(*) and Cecilia narrates the misfortunes of this unlucky love with vengeful humor singing her “coplas” (verses).

(*) Rosa del desierto
pétalo de cal
la arena baila cuando ella está
rosa del desierto
no tiene rosal
sueña que canta y canta nomás
