Colombia’s Salsa Stars Grupo Niche Win Best Tropical Latin Album Grammy

The album 40, celebrating the 40th anniversary of legendary Colombian salsa band Grupo Niche, is the winner of the 2021 Grammy for Best Tropical Latin Album.

The ensemble features arrangements from producer and multi-instrumentalist Jose Aguirre. 40 was recorded in Bayamón (Puerto Rico), Miami (USA) and Cali (Colombia). Guests include Cuban violinist Alfredo de la Fe, marimba maestro Hugo Candelario (Pacific Coast of Colombia), and Colombian percussionist Epifanio Bazán.

In addition to their masterfully-crafted salsa, Grupo Niche also features the rhythms and percussion instruments of the pacific region of Colombia.

The current lineup includes Alex Torres, Luis Araque, and Alejandro Íñigo on lead vocals; Juanito Murillo on congas; Diego Camacho on timbal and cajon; Fabio Celorio on bongo; Hector ‘Pichie’ Pérez on percussion; Victor Gonzalez on piano; Jhonny Torres and Sergio Múnera on bass; José Aguirre on keyboards, guitar and trumpet; Carlos Zapata and Oswaldo Ospino trumpet; Alex Zapata on trombone; Paul Gordillo on tenor saxophone; and Wichy Camacho, Alex Torres, Luis Araque, and Alejandro Iñigo on backing vocals.
