Geodesia, Masterful Mandolin and More String Delights from Luis Peixoto

Luís Peixoto – Geodesia (Groove Punch Studios, 2021)

Luís Peixoto, one of the finest Portuguese string instrument (cavaquinho, mandolin) players in Portugal, has released a superb string-centered album titled Geodesia.

On this occasion, Peixoto focuses primarily on the mandolin. His delightful and masterfully-performed music is grounded in Portuguese and Celtic music. However, there is much more on Geodesia. Peixoto invited friends from various regions of Spain (Galicia, Asturias, Catalonia, Canary Islands and Murcia) as well as Finland and Cape Verde, who added extraordinary Iberian, Nordic and Atlantic flavors to the overall sound.

Peixoto was a member of various well known folk and world music acts in Portugal. He performed with artists such as Dazkarieh, Sebastião Antunes, Júlio Pereira and Ana Bacalhau. In 2017 he released the solo album “Assimétrico.”

The lineup on Geodesia includes Luís Peixoto on mandolin. Special guests: Ciscu Cardona (Spain) on guitar; Rubén Bada (Spain)  on violin, Celina da Piedade (Portugal) on accordion; Ricardo Mouriño (Spain) on tin whistle; Pablo Vergara (Spain) on bodhrán; Esko Järvelä (Finland) on violin; Pedro Fariñas (Spain) on Galician bagpipe; Ricard Ros (Spain) on flutes; José Peixoto (Portugal) on electric guitar; Catarina Moura (Portugal) on vocals; José Robles (Spain) on octavilla and Spanish lute;  Germán López (Canary Islands, Spain) on timple; and Hernani Almeida (Cape Verde) on nylon guitar.
