String instrument virtuoso Luis Peixoto was born in Coimbra, Portugal in 1980. He studied classical guitar and recorder at Lagos Music Academy; mandolin at the Conservatory of Coimbra; and cavaquinho, mandolin and guitarra de Coimbra at the Traditional Instruments School in Coimbra. He also has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Coimbra.
Luis plays various string instruments, including bandolim, cavaquinho, bouzouki, and electronics.
He has been very involved in the world music scene in Portugal and Spain, performing with various traditional folk and contemporary roots music acts, including Dazkarieh, Stockholm Lisboa Project, Trim, Sebastião Antunes, Anxo Lorenzo Band, and Julio Pereira.
Luis has received various album awards such as “Best Original Composition” – “Jumping bits” (2011), “Best Folk Album of the Year” with “Assembly Point” (2011) and “Trim” (2014).
In 2017, he released his first solo album Assimétrico” His second solo album, Geodesia, was released in 2021. It reached the top 10 of the World Music Charts Europe and the Transglobal World Music Chart for 3 consecutive months.
In 2024, Luís Peixoto’s released the single “Please Take Care.” The instrumental piece features Peixoto on bouzouki and mandolin, accompanied by Spanish musician Xosé Liz on guitar and low whistle.
Luís Peixoto is also a renowned music producer.
