The Wonderful Experimental Folk of The Rheingans Sisters

The Rheingans Sisters – Receiver (bendigedig, 2020)

The Rheingans Sisters are one of the rising stars the English folk music scene. Rowan and Anna Rheingans are fiddlers and multi-instrumentalists. They play innovative original music grounded in English folklore as well as ancient fiddle traditions from Scandinavia and southern Europe.

Receiver is evocative, mesmerizing, experimental, bittersweet and hauntingly beautiful, incorporating familiar string sounds along with unexpected drones and ambience.

The lineup includes Anna Rheingans on violin, voice, 5-string banjo, tambourin à cordes, flabuta, feet, Hammond organ, bell tree; and Rowan Rheingans on violin, viola, voice, 5-string banjo, baritone banjo, pocket piano, electric guitar, and synthesizer.

The CD version is packaged in a hard cover book with a 48-page full color booklet with lyrics, photos and artwork. It is a collaboration with French visual artist Pierre-Olivier Boulant, who makes ‘solargraphs,’ which are pin-hole camera images made over long periods using commonplace containers strapped to his balcony in Toulouse, France.
