Artist Profiles: Erol Josué

Musician, dancer, actor and vodoo priest Artist Profiles: Erol Josué was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1970.

At 19, Erol moved to Paris. In the French capital, he formed his own 13-member dance ensemble called Compagnie Shango. From Paris, he relocated to New York City, where there was a large Haitian community.

In New York City, Erol performed vodoo music combined with other genres such as rock, electronica and jazz.

in 2007, Erol released an album titled Regleman. Arund that time he moved to Miami.

Since 2012, Erol Josué has been the Director of the National Bureau of Ethnology, where he presents Haitian vodoo culture.

Josué has introduced Haitian culture to many universities and organizations throughout the United States. He officiates vodoo ceremonies and has acquired a great knowledge of healing plants and serves as “leaf doctor” specialized in traditional Haitian medicine.
