Artist Profiles: Ana Carla Maza

Cellist Ana Carla Maza Sierra was born in Havana, Cuba in a musical family. Her father is acclaimed Chilean pianist Carlos Maza and her mother is Cuban guitarist Mirza Sierra.

Ana Carla started her cello classes at 8 and appeared on stage for the first time in Havana when she was barely ten.

At 13 she participated in an album with the project Carlos Maza en Familia. At 14, she played in the album ”Quererte”.

She moved to Paris in 2012 to study at the Conservatory and embarked on a solo career, performing classical, jazz and world music throughout Europe.

In 2018, she released Alma, inspired by the musical traditions of her childhood, from Brazilian bossa nova to Cuban habanera through a larger musical vocabulary. She incorporates Latin rhythms, pop tunes, jazz harmonies and classical techniques.

In 2023, Ana Carla Maza returned to her Cuban roots with an album titled Caribe.

Ana Carla currently lives in Tarragona, Spain.
