El Paso Firme, a Celebration of Hispanic Culture and Rejection of Hate

El Paso Firme will take place on September 7th at Ascarate Park in El Paso, Texas. The event is organized by Border Network for Human Rights, RAICES Texas and the National Day Laborer Organizing Network. El Paso Firme will include a march, a call to action, and performances from Hispanic artists Ana Tijoux, Cuco, La Santa Cecilia, Rebeca Lane, Los Frontera de Ciudad Juarez, Dueto Dos Rosas, DJ Trillo, and DJ Birth Defects. Puerto Rican rapper Residente will also be speaking at the event. The goal is to confront and reject the recent acts of hate that have affected the United States.

El Paso is a community connecting cultures and symbolizing hope and inclusion. Last month, families in El Paso were attacked by a man who expressed his hatred for the Hispanic community.

Cuco says, “This event to me means standing in solidarity to keep our people united and protect from the dangers of supremacy and those who pose a threat to minority communities. It’s important to fight against constant acts of hate along with the confinement of immigrants in camps and the hateful people in power.”
