Lokesh Anand

Lokesh Anand was born on March 13, 1978 in Delhi. He placed his fingers on the shehnai at the age of 10. With training from his father Shri Kalicharan Ji, who was trained under the renowned shehnai maestro Pt. Vishnu Prasanna Ji and Pt. Vishnu Prasanna Ji, he got an opportunity to get lessons from renowned shehnai maestro “Bharat Ratna” Ustad Bismillah Khan Saheb and rigorous training from renowned shehnai maestro Pt.Anant Lal (disciple of Thumri Samart Pt. Mahadev Mishra.

Lokesh continued studies with Pt. Daya Shankar (disciple of renowned sitar maestro “Bharat Ratna” Pt. Ravi Shankar Ji) and Pt. Rajinder Prasanna (disciple of pt. Vishnu Prasanna Ji). It was due to this training that Lokesh Anand mastered the ability to control and maintain the specialized technique in gayaki and tantrakari both in shehnai.

He has given many solo and duet recitals, as well as accompanied by his gurus. Lokesh has performed for various music festivals, conferences and performed with fusion and jazz groups in India and abroad like Taj Mahotsav in Agra, Kal Ke Kalakar Sangeet Sammelan in Bombay, Vishu Digambar Sangeet Sammelan in Agra, Swami Hari Das Sangeet Sammelan in Bombay, the Automm Festival, Nepal Festival in Kathmandu, Festival of India in Tokyo and Scintillating Melodies in Kulalampur. He also has participated in the Akashwani Sangeet Sammelan, National Program of M Music All India Radio, Sangeet Sabha with Pt. Anant Lal and Pt.Daya Shankar.

His many prizes and awards include Bhatkhandey Sangeet Mahavidhalaya Lucknow, Surmani in 1997 and Sangeet Sadhak in 2004 and Sangeet Ratna in 2005. At present, he is working as a staff artist in the song and drama division of the ministry of information & broadcasting for the government of India.
