Hermanas Ferrín

The Ferrín sisters are two singers from Santiago de Cuba. Mercedes was born in 1944 and Esperanza in 1947. From a very young age, they form part of the large number of outstanding artists that come from the eastern capital of Cuba, Santiago.

The Hermanas Ferrín perform the true roots of Cuban trova. Now that most singers from the 1930s and 1940s are either dead or retired, Mercedes and Esperanza still sing the traditional songs that their father taught them.

In the 1960s, the sisters recorded their first album. Another one was made in the 1970s. During that decade, Mercedes and Esperanza traveled for the first time to Havana where they achieved a great success and the positive reaction of the public that attended their concerts. Since then, they have regularly performed at the best stages in Cuba.

After a few years of silence, Elíades Ochoa wanted to help Mercedes and Esperanza’s musical career and took Las Hermanas Ferrín to Spain, landing them a record deal with his label, Virgin Records Spain. Tours with Elíades Ochoa followed.

The Hermanas Ferrín released their first CD in Europe in 1999, accompanied by one of the hottest groups from Santiago de Cuba, Los Guanches. It’s an album full of classic songs by Manuel Corona, Calixto Cardona, Manuel Limonta.

The Hermanas Ferrín are part of the history of the greatest Cuban women and their European concerts were not not only a surprise for Cuban music followers but, all people which enjoy the best popular music.
