Ivan Kolev was born in Sofia. He studied at the Sofia Music Academy and played lead clarinet in the Philharmonic and Symphonic orchestras of Bulgaria.

classical music, Bulgarian folk music, Romanian, Armenian, Turkish, and Gypsy sounds.
Throughout his musical career, Kolev has performed and recorded with Ibro Lolov, Angel Vangelov, Roumen Siracov, and Sasho Petrov.
