Eda Zari is an Albanian soprano who has become one of the rising stars in her country. She combines classical Albanian polyphony, music, jazz and pop.
Zari comes from a family with longstanding ties to polyphony and Albanian music in general. The Lela family, from Përmet, has preserved music and Albanian folklore traditions for generations. Elements of this tradition can often be heard in the melodies of the songs composed by Eda Zari. Her Songs speak of human beings, their relations, love, solitude, searching, meetings and friendship between people in the course of their lives. She sings both in Albanian and English shows that she is speaking out to the Albanian public, but also to the world at large.
Born in Tirana (Albania), Eda began singing at age six. After studying at the Academy of Art in Tirana, she moved to Germany for political reasons to continue her musical studies at the Cologne College of Music. She graduated as an opera & theater singer.
