Breabach formed in Glasgow as students enjoying the thriving folk scene at sessions and ceilidhs. Although they come from all parts of Scotland, they share a common love for playing traditional music.
The four members of the band are all accomplished musicians and when they get a chance to play together, their show is not to be missed. Breabach creates an exciting, authentic sound with a mix of bagpipes, fiddle, whistles and guitar.
Their combination of strong traditional tunes with original arrangements produces a sound that will leave a lasting impression on the listener. It is this sound that helped them achieve success at the influential Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Open Stage Competition in 2005.
In 2021, Breabach released the soundtrack album to the animated movie Dùsgadh. It was a collaboration between Breabach and Scottish BAFTA Award-Winning animator Cat Bruce. Each band member selected a different element of the story that was later gathered together in one final piece. The album is intended to be listened to in one sitting.
In 2022, the band released Fàs (a Gaelic word meaning growth, developing and sprouting). Fàs is deeply inspired by the natural environment of Scotland.
The lineup in 2022 included Megan Henderson on fiddle and vocals; Calum MacCrimmon on whistles, bouzouki, vocals and pipes; James Lindsay on bass; Ewan Robertson on guitars, cajón, vocals; and Conal McDonagh on pipes, whistles, vocals.
