The Teatro Español, the oldest stage in Europe, will present original shows during Suma Flamenca 2014 (Flamenco summit), one of the greatest flamenco festivals in the world. On Tuesday, June 24, flamenco artist Arcángel will present Estruna, a show that brings together artists from four different European countries, including The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices.
On Wednesday, June 25, flamenco song and dance will appear together in a double bill with vocalist Diego Carrasco singing the lively forms from Cadiz on Hippytano, and also the new choreography and dances of El Mistela on Bailando la vida. The following day, renowned dancer José Maya will showcase his new work titled Latente.
A great tribute to orthodox flamenco will take place on Friday, June 27 with the voices of three maestros who are celebrating 50 years as performers: José Menese, Rancapino and Fernando de la Morena.
Another double bill is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, featuring young ‘cantaor’ (singer) José Enrique Morente delivering a pure form of flamenco, as well as a great flamenco dance gala with Jesús Carmona, Karime Amaya and Paloma Fantova. On Sunday, June 29, a double bill will present two worldwide premieres: the EnCante a dos show will exhibit the vocals of Montse Cortés along with Israeli singer Yasmin Levy en, and then a grand tribute to the late Paco de Lucía called La cuarta dimension, featuring three guitar masters: Gerardo Núñez, Diego del Morao and Dani de Morón.
Suma Flamenca will take place from June 4 to July 3, 2014 in 24 venues in the Madrid region.
