Chidinma Okafor
Modern Gospel Music from West Africa (ARC Music, 2009)
This is a collection of gospel songs featuring Nigerian musician Chidinma Okafor, backed by a multi-part choir. The songs are in a multitude of languages, reflecting the linguistic diversity of Africa. Many are in Yoruba and Hausa, and some are in Ibo and English as well. They blend choir structure with African melodies and modern rhythms.
A hefty liner notes booklet provides information about the artist and each of the songs in four languages including English. Check out the pieces ‘Omeriwo’ and ‘Ihe Nile’ for a fine modern African blend.
