Global Electronica Pioneer Cheb i Sabbah Dies at 66

Haim Serge El Baz, better known as Cheb i Sabbah, a global electronica and world music DJ died on Wednesday, November 6th, 2013 of cancer. His family announced the news on his website: “Dear friends, family, fans and fellow beat followers; It is with a heavy heart that we, Cheb i Sabbah’s family, announce his peaceful passing yesterday morning in his home in San Francisco. He was surrounded by his life partner of over 18 years and is memorialized by his two children and three grandchildren.”

Cheb i Sabbah was a well-known artist in the world music community. He was a composer and producer. Cheb i Sabbah left his native Algeria in the 1960s, and made a career out of blending music from all over the world into dance-floor mixes.

He released several albums for Six Degrees Records, merging electronic music with Indian and North African music.
