32nd Annual Tejano Music Awards To Be Held in San Antonio

The 32nd Annual Tejano Music Awards will be held on Saturday, August 18th, 2012 at the Illusions Theater located inside the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Over 7,000 guests are expected to attend and the event will include performances by some of Tejano Music’s most popular and crowd pleasing bands.

The Tejano Music Awards have been a tradition in the state of Texas since 1980 and are held annually to recognize and honor Tejano music and artists of that music genre. The awards have a fan following from all over the United States that includes Texas as well as California, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Washington, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Ohio, Idaho, Florida, Georgia and from as far as Mexico. The Tejano Music Awards carry great and cultural significance in that they represent strong cultural ties and a heritage that continues to bind many Hispanics across the United States – even after 32 years!

The event returns to the Alamodome after a 10 year absence from that venue. Previous years have seen attendance and support for the Awards Show grow and organizers state that it was time to return back to the Alamodome where previous large productions for the Tejano Music Awards were held and was the only venue large enough to sustain the show’s attendees. “TTMA is very proud to part of the long history and tradition of honoring and recognizing Tejano Music and artists,” stated Robert Arellano, Chairman of the Board for Texas Talent Musicians Association (TTMA). “Every year, we see more and more fans travel to San Antonio to attend the Awards. It’s exciting to see how support for this music genre has grown to where we have to host the annual Tejano Music Awards in a larger venue, so we are back at the magnificent and spacious Alamodome.”

The Tejano Music Awards will begin with a star-studded Red Carpet reception that will play host to hundreds of fans, media and artists. Some of Tejano music’s greatest bands and artists will be performing between the Awards presentations with many of them up for awards. Those scheduled to perform include: Emilio Navaira, Ruben Ramos and the Texas Revolution, Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz, Jay Perez, Stefani Montiel, David Lee Garza y Los Musicales, Gary Hobbs, Hometown Boys, Los Hermanos Farias, Michael Salgado, Ricardo Castillon y La Diferenzia, Shelly Lares, Mario Flores, Sunny Sauceda, and Avizo with Chris Q, Jerry Lopez and Al Muniz.

The Awards show will also carry performances by new and upcoming artists such as Ricky Valenz and Juaquin Cura as well as Tracy Perez, Jessica Sanchez and other surprise performances guaranteed to delight event attendees. This year, the Tejano Music Awards will include a special twist to the event with performances by the all girl rock band, Girl in a Coma and a performance by Grupo Massore, a young and exciting Mexican cumbia group from Coahuila, Mexico.

Another element of the evening will include presentations of a special Lifetime Achievement Award to three notable, long-time artists and media personalities. The honorees include Johnny Canales, Host and Executive Producer of the long-running “Johnny Canales TV Show” whose program showcased and helped launch the careers of numerous Tejano artists, and aired for many years on Univision in the United States and on Televisa in Mexico.

The other honorees include Elsa Garcia, Tejano singer, producer and performer who is the sole female producer in the Tejano music industry as well as Mingo Zaldivar, legendary tejano – conjunto accordionist whose career spans over five decades and who has grown to be one of the dynamic and electrifying accordionists of today.

This year’s Tejano Music Awards have partnered with corporate sponsors that include Hermes Music, KXTN 107.5 FM Univision Radio, BNet Radio, La Prensa of San Antonio, Budweiser, Telemundo KVDA 60 – San Antonio and Devine Design & Photography.

We are very excited and glad to be part of this year’s Tejano Music Awards,” stated Alberto Kreimerman, CEO of Hermes Music. “Hermes Music has always dedicated itself to promote and support music. The Tejano Music Awards represent one of the most popular styles of music by the Hispanic community. It is with great pride and honor that we support the Tejano Music Awards and would like to congratulate all the artists and nominees for their tremendous contribution to Tejano music.”
