Hamilton de Holanda Quinteto
Brasilianos 3 (Adventure Music, 2012)
Bandolim (mandolin) maestro Hamilton de Holanda continues his Brasilianos series with a third volume, titled Brasilianos 3. The album was recorded in Rio de Janeiro in 2011 and features an outstanding band of young Brazilian musicians, including guitarist and co-composer Daniel Santiago, bassist André Vasconcellos, drummer Marco Bahia and harmonica player Gabriel Grossi.
Once more, Hamilton de Holanda demonstrates his admirable technique and inspiration on the 1o-string bandolim. All the pieces on the album are all original compositions by Hamilton de Holanda. Guitarist Daniel Santiago co-wrote four of the cuts. The result is an absolutely exquisite collection of contemporary acoustic selections rooted in Brazilian traditional music and jazz.
Although most of the music is instrumental, the celebrated Brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist Milton Nascimento makes a guest appearance on ‘Guerra e Paz I’.
Brasilianos 3 is a memorable album by one of the great instrumentalists and composers in contemporary Brazilian roots music.
