Maya – The Illusion (Sony)
Rahul Sharma, son and musical disciple of santoor maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, has a number of fusion albums to his credit, including Samandar and Time Traveller. The title track of this album Maya: The Illusion really stands out, especially the soaring vocals by Sunidhi Chauhan (of “Dil Mein Jaagi Dhadkan” fame from the Sur soundtrack).
The rest of the tracks make for an easy listen, and carry on the trademark Indo-Western fusion touch of his other albums. Rahul has performed in North America and Europe, at various folk and world music festivals, including WOMAD.
