Battlefield Band
Line-Up (Temple Records /Cadiz Music, 2011)
At this time, Battlefield Band is undoubtedly one of the pillars of contemporary Scottish folk music. Although they have been around for many years, their music still sounds fresh and captivating, characterized by fiery dual fiddles and pipes. Line-Up is their new album and it contains an excellent mix of original and rearranged traditional tunes that will please Celtic music fans.
On Line-Up you’ll find vibrant instrumentals and the beautifully crafted melancholic ballads. Battlefield Band go beyond the folk traditions of Scotland, incorporating Irish tunes and even a Scottish adaption of the Otis Redding’s soul classic “That’s How Strong My Love Is”.
The current incarnation of Battlefield Band includes multi-instrumentalists Mike Katz on bagpipes, whistles, bouzouki, guitar, bass, vocals; Alasdair White on fiddle, whistle, bouzouki, bagpipes; Sean O’Donnell on vocals, guitar, cittern; Ewen Henderson on fiddle, bagpipes, vocals, piano. Ewen Henderson is the latest addition to the band. He hails from the Highlands of Scotland.
Line-Up is another superb album by one of the most significant bands in the Celtic music arena.
