Tohpati Ethnomission

Tohpati Ethnomission is an environmentally conscious musical project developed by Indonesian guitarist Tohpati. He is a member of one of the best known Indonesian jazz fusion bands, simakDIALOG.
On Save the Planet, Tohpati combines the rich Indonesian folk and classical traditions with jazz improvisation and fusion elements. The album features Tohpati on guitar, Indro Hardjodikoro on bass, Demas Narawangsa (only 16 years old at the time of this session) on drums and Indonesian percussion, Endang Ramdan on kendang and Diki Suwardjiki on suling (Indonesian wooden flute). Vocalist Lestari appears on the track “Bedhaya Ketawang,”
Tohpati and his Ethnomission crew rehearsed extensively and recorded Save the Planet as a live recording in Jakarta, Indonesia as an audio CD and audiovisual DVD.
In addition to introducing Indonesian culture to the rest of the world, Tohpati Ethnomission has the goal of showing people how human intervention has deteriorated the earth.
Save the Planet is an impressive release by some of Indonesia’s most interesting musical explorers.
