New York, USA – Bebo Valdés & Diego ‘El Cigala’ will make their New York City concert debut at the Beacon Theater on September 8, 2004 at 9 p.m. This performance comes on the heels of one of the most internationally acclaimed albums in recent memory: Lágrimas Negras (‘Black Tears’).
These two renowned performers, from two distinct disciplines, have joined forces to create a third, powerful and distinctive musical language. Mr. Bebo Valdés, is the pianist and composer arranger who has helped shape Cuban music for the last 60 years. He is also the father of jazz phenomenon Chucho Valdés. Diego ‘El Cigala’ is the younger traditional soul-searching flamenco singer from Spain. They use boleros as their medium, Spanish as their language, and together they create Afro-Cuban influenced boleros with a distinct flamenco personality.Lágrimas Negras has sold more than 400,000 copies since its release and was named Critic’s choice Album of the year 2003 by The New York Times.
Along with numerous other international accolades and awards, Bebo & ‘Cigala’ and the album, Lágrimas Negras, have just been nominated in five categories for the 2004 Latin GRAMMY awards including Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Traditional Tropical Album.
