Yesterday I Saw The Earth Beautiful is a notable collaboration between skilled Irish guitarist and composer Gerry O’Beirne and American fiddler Rosie Shipley. Together they make an engaging mix of Celtic music from Ireland and Cape Breton (Canada) with the bluegrass sounds of Appalachia in the United States.
Gerry O’Beirne is a renowned singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He plays 6 and 12 string guitar, Puerto Rican tiple, ukulele, and slide guitar. He grew up in Ireland and in Ghana (West Africa), and has since lived in England, California, and Mexico. His own compositions combine traditional music with contemporary song.
Rosie Shipley grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, surrounded by traditional Irish music and dance, and in rural Nova Scotia, Canadag. Rosie learned traditional tunes from fiddler Brendan Mulvilhill. Rosie has toured with The Willow Band and as a guest with Cherish the Ladies. When she is not touring, Rosie teaches fiddle at her popular music studio in Baltimore.
Gerry O’Beirne met Rosie Shipley met in a recording studio in Texas in 2002. They have been playing music and touring the globe since then.
Yesterday I Saw The Earth Beautiful includes Gerry’s instrumental compositions and evocative songs as well as a few traditional pieces. Gerry O’Beirne demonstrates his masterful guitar technique combined with Rosie’s spirited Celtic fiddle work.
