Gjermund Larsen Trio
Aurum (Heilo / Grappa HCD7252, 2010)
The Gjermund Larsen Trio has a new album titled Aurum. Led by the great Norwegian violinist Gjermund Larsen on Hardanger fiddle and violin, the trio also features virtuoso musicians Andreas Utnem on piano and harmonium and Sondre Meisfjord on bass.
Aurum presents what could be considered chamber folk: contemporary acoustic music composed and performed by virtuoso musicians which are rooted in Norwegian folk and classical music. Gjermund Larsen has become of the finest folk music violinists in Europe and he treats the listener to a magnificent collection of beautiful original instrumental works that blend traditional music with jazz and classical music elements. The evocative harmonium provides an excellent balance to the vibrant fiddle.
Aurum was nominated for the Spellemanprisen (the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy) and for the Folkelarmprisen (Norwegian Folk Music Award) 2011.
Aurum is an extraordinary contemporary Norwegian folk album by one of the finest ensembles out of Scandinavia.
