The Elgin, which is Geronimo Inns’ first live pub in Ladbroke Grove (UK), is hosting a New Folk and Roots Night music event Wednesday, February 9th. The artists scheduled t perform are Amber States, Twisted Harmony and Aaron Wright.
Amber States got started in January 2009 when, armed with a handful of songs, Messrs Bell(vocals/guitar) and Noyce (cello/bass) set forth in the Amber States(ion) Wagon playing live shows around London Town finding their own sound, taking pointers from barflies and encouragement from the odd finger tap.
In a bid to turn their finger tapping songbook into a hand clapping jamboree, Spring saw the addition of a kick drum, a series of Sunday shows at Camden’s Proud Galleries, and initial demos were recorded.
Not one for the Summertime Blues, Amber States pressed on and unveiled Henry ‘Cat Paws’ Thomas, recruited to tinkle on the ivories, and after talks of upping the ante, duly adopted beat duty. Autumn 2009 – a bigger sound and selling-out to the odd birthday bash to fund studio time, the hand clapping was well on it’s way to the feet; cue Nick ‘Pick’ Lee, drafted in from the Brighton shores to police the riot and remind us all where we came from.
In 2010 Amber States recorded a 2 song demo with Chris Denman at XFM which lead to gigs at well respected venues around London (Proud Galleries, The Boogaloo, Ronnie Scott’s and the indie-folk collective Communion; and caught the finely attuned ears of BBC Radio 6’s Tom Robinson who lavished some praise and urged everyone to get to know a little bit more. Currently just finished recording an EP with Matt Ingram at Urchin Studios in Limehouse.
Twisted Harmony are an up-and-coming acoustic folk duo, who have been wowing the London music scene with their fresh sound and inspiring performances since the release of their debut album ‘Sell It On’.
The duo is made up of Sam Brooks and Keiron Marshall, who combine impressive instrumental prowess with a spine-chilling blend of vocal talent.
Each artist’s astonishing adaptability enables them as a team to produce truly remarkable original music. Wringing every last drop of emotion from each performance, Twisted Harmony are as memorable as they are unique.
Aaron Wright has spent the last couple of years building on a growing reputation as an excellent and charismatic singer/songwriter. He is joined by his band the Aprils, who have helped in branching out, performing in front of a number of capacity crowds in London lately. With Aarons musical influences firmly rooted with the likes of Dylan and Neil Young. It’s his lyrical charm that sets him apart from his contemporaries.
