Albuquerque (New Mexico), USA – Klezmerquerque – Albuquerque’s annual Klezmer music and dance festival celebrates its seventh year February 12-15, 2009. Produced by Nahalat Shalom, this annual klezmer celebration presents 4 days of concerts, dance parties, classes and workshops featuring the world-renowned Strauss/Warschauer Klezmer Duo—Deborah Strauss & Jeff Warschauer; and the acclaimed dancer, choreographer, dance scholar, teacher and historian Judith Brin Ingber.
‘Klezmer’ is the music and dance of the Jewish people of Eastern Europe which is currently enjoying a revival in the world music scene as well as in popular music and culture. The 20-piece intergenerational Nahalat Shalom Community Klezmer band will be celebrating the release of its first full length CD and will be performing on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The Rebbe’s Orkestra-the popular Albuquerque-based klezmer and Judaic ensemble will also perform both evenings. The festival begins on Thursday evening, February 12th at 7pm, with a "hands-on" klezmer music workshop taught by the Strauss/Warschauer Duo. The $20.00 price for this workshop includes admission to the Friday evening event on February 13th, which begins at 6:30pm and also features a vegetarian potluck dinner, and some Sephardic wedding dances taught and led by dance artist Judith Brin Ingber.

From noon-2pm there will be a catered ‘Lunch ‘n Powerpoint Presentation’ followed by a Q & A session with Brin Ingber: "Why Jews Aren’t Just People of the Book" with rare and historic dance illustrations and music for Jewish dance in far flung communities through the ages: $8-$15 suggested donation.
From 2:15pm-3:45pm the Klezmer Duo will lead "Making your instrument sing in Yiddish", a hands-on workshop for everyone: $20-general admission /$16 for seniors, students & fixed income. At 7pm (DOORS @ 6:30pm) Brin Ingber will perform two dances.
