Glasgow-based collective Rootless has released a video for its latest single, “Dam Mast Qalandar.” The group brings together Romani and Indian musicians to examine the historical and cultural ties between the Roma people and India through music.
The new track reinterprets the celebrated South Asian Sufi devotional song associated internationally with Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Rootless combines Romani and Punjabi lyrics with bhangra rhythms and Romani instrumentation.
