The delegate for Culture, Tourism and Sports, Andrea Levy, and the festival’s artistic director, Ángel Rojas, recently presented the program at the Fernán Gómez theater, the main venue for the festival. The festival, which will take place from May 14 to 27, 2023, offers a range of novelties and premieres in Madrid, making it a valuable addition to the city’s cultural scene. The City of Madrid Department of Culture, Tourism, and Sports is responsible for organizing the festival.

The festival boasts a diverse range of activities that cater to different audiences, including flamenco singing, dancing, guitar concerts, documentary films, and family-friendly activities. It will be held across 12 stages in the city, including the Fernán Gómez Cultural Center of the Villa, the Condeduque Contemporary Culture Center, Open space Quinta de los Molinos, Cineteca Madrid, and La Casa Encendida. Madrid tablaos (flamenco nightclubs), which joined the festival in 2022, will also be part of this year’s edition, highlighting the city’s importance in flamenco dance, which was declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Flamenco Madrid will host a special tribute to the late artist Pansequito by Antonio Reyes and Juan Villar. The festival will also showcase a production titled “Ellas,” that combines traditional Andalusian music with flamenco, and features performances by Mor Karbasi, Abir el Abed, and Ángeles Toledano. Additionally, Antonio Canales will present a spoken and danced conference called “Flamenco del Siglo XXI” at the Jardiel Poncela Hall. The festival will also feature a documentary about Canales’ life at Cineteca Madrid.

Ángel Rojas, a renowned bailaor, choreographer, and producer, is the festival’s artistic director for the second consecutive year. During the presentation, Rojas emphasized the festival’s commitment to featuring artists who have helped establish Flamenco Madrid as a significant cultural event for the city. He expressed his pride in the festival’s role in showcasing new proposals and providing a platform for artists to present their creations. Rojas further praised iconic flamenco dancers such as Antonio Canales, Jesús Carmona, La Lupi, and Carmen Talegona for their contribution to the festival’s reputation as a leading event within the sector.
